What is transferrin

The transferrin saturation coefficient (TSC) is the ratio of iron bound in transferrin (iron in serum) to the total iron binding capacity (TIBC) or total transferrin, measured as a percentage.

High values ​​of CST (transferrin saturation coefficient) are determined with increased iron content in the body and are inherent in the following conditions: megaloblastic anemia, sideroblastic anemia, hemochromatosis.
