Cordiamine belongs to the group of respiratory analeptics with combined action. The drug affects the central nervous system, promoting the activation of the vasomotor and respiratory centers, which are located in the medulla oblongata. Cordiamine is often used for low blood pressure, since the active components of the drug can sharply increase blood pressure, which makes it an indispensable drug for relieving emergency conditions. However, for safe treatment with this medication, the correct dosage and optimal dosage regimen must be selected. Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
The pharmacological group of Cordiamin is an analeptic , that is, it has a stimulating effect on the central nervous system, and, mainly, on such centers in the medulla oblongata as the respiratory and vasomotor centers. Cordiamine does not have a direct stimulating effect on the heart or a vasoconstrictor effect. It is known to be toxic in large doses and can cause clonic seizures .
Regarding pharmacokinetics, good absorption regardless of the route of administration. The effect of the injection occurs after a few minutes, from oral administration - after 12-15 minutes. The duration of the effect varies depending on the type of administration:

The solution is administered subcutaneously, intramuscularly or intravenously (parenterally). For adults, the dose is 1-2 ml 1 to 3 times a day, for children (recommended subcutaneously) - from 0.1 ml to 0.75 ml, depending on age.
The maximum permissible single dose for adults is 2 ml (corresponding to 60 drops), the daily dose is 6 ml (corresponding to 180 drops). The maximum single dose of subcutaneous and intravenous administration for drug poisoning is 5 ml.
Composition and release form
Solution - 1 ml:
- active ingredient - niketamide 250.0 mg;
- excipient - water for injection up to 1.0 ml.
Solution for injection 250 mg/ml, 1 ml or 2 ml in an ampoule.
5 ampoules in a blister pack made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film.
1 or 2 blister packs together with instructions for use and an ampoule scarifier are placed in a pack of cardboard for consumer packaging or imported.
5 or 10 ampoules along with instructions for use and an ampoule scarifier are placed in a pack of cardboard for consumer packaging with a corrugated liner. When using ampoules with a break point or ring, do not insert an ampoule scarifier.

4, 5 or 10 blister packs along with instructions for use in an amount equal to the number of blister packs are placed in a cardboard pack for consumer packaging.
50, 100 blister packs of ampoules along with an equal number of instructions for use are placed in a corrugated cardboard box.

Cordiamine drops and other forms of the drug may alter the effects when combined with the following drugs:
- antidepressants and other central nervous system stimulants - Cordiamine enhances their effect;
- phenothiazide derivatives , general anesthesia , para-aminosalicylic acid - reduce the effects of Cordiamin;
- sleeping pills, narcotics, antiepileptics, anxiolytics and antipsychotic drugs - reduces their effect;
- Reserpine enhances the convulsive effect of Cordiamine.
Contraindications and side effects
The use of the drug is contraindicated in the presence of the following conditions, which in case of overdose can also be detected as side effects:
- allergic reaction to the active substance;
- predisposition to epileptic and convulsive seizures;
- hypertension;
- rapid heartbeat with normal blood pressure;
- hyperthermia;

Important! While using Cordiamin, you should stop taking ascorbic acid, as they are incompatible. The medication enhances the effect of antidepressants and stimulants and reduces the therapeutic effect of analgesics, barbiturates, and tranquilizers.
